O pill that can speed bone healing

A revolutionary material created by U.S. researchers, could accelerate fracture healing, shorten the process from several months to several days.
Scientists at the University of Georgia, USA, used celuele stem to produce a protein involved in bone regeneration.
They incirporat prioteina in a gel, obtaining a material which they named "clay fracture" and have tested on laboratory rats, stabilizing fractures and introducing a small amount of material at fracture.
After two weeks, the animals could use their feet without any problem.
Currently, "plasticine fracture" is tested on larger animals such as pigs and sheep.

Scientists hope that the material will prove useful in humans, especially among soldiers. Fractures are a major cause of amputations of limbs among U.S. armed forces personnel.

Even if it does not lead to amputations, soldiers' mental health suffers when they are bedridden for several months to repair severe fractures. Using plasticine may shorten recovery, avoiding many of the problems associated with fractures.
